ECO STEPS is a Romanian Ecology Educational Project, founded and coordinated by a group of students from Cluj-Napoca. Its main purpose is to spread the recycling and eco-friendly habits in the local community.
We identified, as one of the biggest problems in our community, the lack of knowledge concerning ecology issues. We seem to always be in a rush and never have the time to think about who or what is around. Even the youngest population seems to lack the basic ecological knowledge.
So, we are providing as much information as possible about an eco-lifestyle and the recycling process. Then we are involving the community in specific ecology-related projects.
We started our project in February 2008 by involving children and youths from local universities, colleges and high schools in the recycling process at their educational institutions, by facilitating it and promoting it. The response was extremely positive.
We’re having fun cleaning areas in Cluj-Napoca which need our contribution, promoting on a larger scale the recycling centers and guiding people towards them. We’ve also held ecology workshops for children and teenagers in their schools and other educational entities. Last but not the least, we love planting trees! 100 so far around Cluj-Napoca and approx. 2000 in the Retezat Mountains National Park.
